Wow is it Sunday again? And have you seen how many Sunday Salon members there are now? We are really getting to be a group or is that a flock? Come join us as we read, from all over the world, good books on Sunday's! Should we plan a convention? Just food for thought.
Reading again from my birthday books, The Overlook, by Michael Connelly has fulfilled my weekly desire for a good mystery/thriller genre novel.
In his first case since he left the LAPD's Open Unsolved Unit for the prestigious Homicide Special squad, Detective Harry Bosch is called out to investigate a complex murder that may have terrible consequences for our national security.
A certain Dr. Stanley Kent is shot twice in the back of his head while on his knees Bosch discovers as he leads the crime scene examination. Why? Not two blocks from his home...
Harry notices the the doc's car looks as if something very heavy was taken from the trunk as there are indentations to indicate four "feet" marks. He also finds id cards from most of the local hospitals. Why?
Because Dr. Kent, a physicist, had access to radioactive isotopes his well being had previously been brought to his attention by the FBI. Home Land Security thought it best to warn him of possible terrorists threats so the Dr. bought a 22 pistol.
The material Kent was handling was cesium which is for cancer patients, but can be made into suitcase bombs.
Kent's wife is found at home, hysterical, hog-tied, and urine drenched in their bedroom.
Detective Bosch smells a rat and the plot really turns into a maze wrapped in a possible apocalyptic attack.
This is enough for you to discover the end of this entertaining book, if you want.
Michael Connelly is good!

Maybe a Greek isle or no Hawaii, boy am I dreaming! Let me pinch myself! Sorry I was still asleep!
Thanks, Jill <= :=)
Agreed that this book is very good, as with all Connelly (pretty much). I particularly liked the way he addresses the "national security" directives in this and other recent novels.
I reviewed this book on Petrona a month ago, though it wasn't on a Sunday.

Hey, what *would* a collective noun for a bunch of Salonists be? A lounge? A chapter?
I keep hearing such great things about Connelly that I really must get down to the library and find the first of the Bosch books. I'm a great believer in starting from the beginning of a series.
I can't wait to read this one. Thanks for the review! I've read all of the other Harry B books, and find them to be excellent.
table talk- I think you are right. In series where the character grows over time, and relationships come and go, and old cases sometimes find life beyond the grave, reading chronologically really works best.
"Salonistas" might be that word you are looking for, d. h.@
I have really enjoyed the Michael Connelly books I have read. I'm still fairly new to the Harry Bosch series, but from what I have read, I know I'll be reading many more. Thank goodness Michael Connelly has written so many books for me to look forward to.
I envy you, lit. feline! Having read them as they appear (in paperback, usually), it is tough to wait for the next one. I'm in that state with pretty much all of the series and authors that I follow closely. Of course, there are millions of excellent books to read, but I'm not always in the state of mind for a Russian master, in spite of my heritage. I just started two new crime fiction sites on Squidoo which allow people to add their own sites, links, or favorite links in various places. Maybe they would be of interest. One is a "lens" and the other is a "group", in Squidoo parlance.
Best wishes, Jim
